Mrs. Langendorf's 3rd Grade
Monday, March 9, 2020
Well, I don’t know how it was for you at home, but it felt like a full moon was coming on in Room 214 all week. Please help remind your students about following classroom rules, being respectful and listening and following directions
In reading, we will continue to read from Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary. We have read through chapter 3 and worked on the vocabulary for chapter 4. I collected their packets to grade over the weekend. Please check out TigerView to see how your child is doing.
We are just cruising through these math chapters now. Please look through the graded math papers with your child and have him/her work on correcting any problems missed to help them better comprehend the skills. Today we discussed using the “butterfly trick” (see math note in the parent information folder) which helped many students find the greater than/less than fraction easily. Some students are still having difficulty comparing when the numerators are the same. I keep telling them that if the numerators are the same, then the smallest denominator is the largest fraction because the whole has been divided into fewer pieces so they’re bigger. They can always do the “butterfly trick” to check.
In English/Writing, we are going to work on our writing skills. More specifically we’ll be working on how to write a written response comparing and contrasting two articles. The Verb Test is in the graded work folders. The students did an awesome job! Next grammar unit will be covering adjectives and adverbs to get us ready for Spring Poetry.
We read our last lesson in our Health Unit, Growth and Development, today. Tomorrow, we will work on flashcards for the vocabulary words and the study guide. The study guide will be due back on Wednesday. We will go over it and study some in class and then the test will be on Thursday.
